Lessons Learned from Holiday 2002
By Sherry Chiger
New York -- Free shipping was by far the most successful promotional
offer among online marketers this past holiday season. But while 39% of
shoppers said that free-shipping offers influenced their buying
decisions, only 9% of shoppers actually received free shipping.
Apparently the promise of free shipping was enough to persuade many
consumers to shop on a Website.

A
New International Magazine
Take a look at any modern-day news magazine such as TIME, Newsweek,
or The Economist. Turn on your TV to any modern cable news
channel such as FOX, CNN, or MSNBC. You will quickly
realize that the mainstream media loves telling you what's wrong with
humanity. Well, what if there was an international news magazine that
could show you what's right with the world? Ode does this by:
 | Providing an objective viewpoint on world events, while focusing
on people, places & organizations that want to make a positive
change to the global landscape.
 | Bridging the ever-widening gap between the Northern & Southern
hemispheres.
 | Offering real-life case scenarios of solutions.
 | Producing news stories from a global/international (non-US)
perspective.
 | Empowering and inspiring the reader to make a difference. |
| | | |
Ode is THE global news magazine that focuses on solutions, not
just problems. In today's corporate-controlled world of media this may
seem like a foreign concept but Ode is trying to change all that.
From the very first page you'll quickly realize that what you're holding
is something unlike any other news magazine before. Why? Because Ode
is NOT simply an international news magazine, it's also a mechanism for
positive change that will help you transform who "you" are.
 | Ode dares to plant a tree in Uganda for every subscriber
 | Ode dares to limit advertising to provide more copy
 | Ode dares to communicate directly with its readers
 | Ode dares to provide a discounted rate to poorer countries
 | Ode dares to have writers from every continent
 | Ode dares to print on 100% recycled paper |
 | Ode is currently only available at
www.odemagazine.com. It will be available at major
bookstores (Barnes & Noble and Borders), at Whole Foods stores
and newsstands by October 2003 |

On their website you can request a free
copy, or have one sent to a friend - check it out! There may be
international advertising potential for those with relevant products.

The
Population of Americans Aged 55+ Expected to Grow 60% in the Next 20
Years
New York, January 30/PRNewswire
- Over the next 20 years the fastest growing segment of the U.S.
population will be those aged 55 and over. According to The U.S. Mature
Market: New Perspectives on the 55+ Consumer, a new research report
published by Packaged Facts and available through MarketResearch.com,
this demographic will constitute nearly 30% of the population in 2022,
compared to approximately 21% in 2002.
In addition to their sheer numbers, by 2007 the 55+
cohort will also wield a buying power of more than $2 trillion - a
figure fueled by the large numbers of boomers who are aging into the
mature demographic.
The interests of the mature population of the U.S. are
sure to influence some significant purchasing trends in coming years.
Already, marketers of children’s apparel and toys have felt the
effects of the booming grandparent sector. In 2002 grandparents over the
age of 55 spent almost $23 billion on goods for their grandkids. By 2007
this number is projected to jump to almost $30 billion.
Is there a market for your book,
music or product that would appeal to grandparents? This group is not
the same as previous generations. Their interests may include passing on
values, interests & products they have come to appreciate.

How to Make Your Marketing Tools as Professional as Possible?
Refer to the 2003 AP
Stylebook when writing news releases, articles or anything else for
the media. If your copy conforms to the same Associated Press style that
the media use, they will immediately know you "get it" when it
comes to things such as punctuation, correct titles, names of companies,
government agencies, etc. July was the 50th anniversary of the first
official release. The 2003 edition provides a special section on
Internet and computer terms as well as fundamental guidelines on
spelling, grammar, punctuation and usage. Order it online for
